in Australia? The Mom mentions the area the kids went to track the horse rustlers, but I didn't catch what she said.

I'm going to guess it was near the Blue Mountains .

Yes, it was filmed in Australia. In fact it was filmed in the Blue Mountains and the Burragorang Valley west of Sydney. Much of that valley is now underwater thanks to the giant Warragamba Dam whose construction began the year after this film came out.

I hope the poor displaced critters were able to vacate safely. Such a beautiful place.
