The most violent movie ever made.

Eddie Muller Introduced this move tonight on AMC saying it has the most violent and sadistic scenes ever put on the screen.
Well it was a lie...not even close...see Richard Widmark in "Kiss of Death" or even the "Big House" from 1931.
What the hell is he talking about??????????????

I just watched this, love the movie, but his comment was a bit much. It's a typical movie of its time, they cut away from showing people getting killed for the most part. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it was rather undercuts his claim.

This Muller guy is a joke on TCM. Brute Force has some violence near the end, and there was the death of the snitch that was pretty vicious, but for the most part Brute Force is a prison drama without a ton of violence. Muller was also a goof in his Red Light intro where he dissed George Raft pretty fierce (Raft wasn't really bad in that movie).

I don't know if Kiss of Death is overall a more violent movie if you want to do a body count or whatever, but the violence is far more upsetting. The Big House is just as violent as Brute Force (and probably a better movie truth be told).

Well it was probably hyperbole.

Well it's not hard to imagine a guy not watching a whole lot of old movies and and maybe he meant it was the most violent movie made up to that point in time.

But it was probably hyperbole.

It's a good movie. Hume Cronin sure made a good villain. And Burt Lancaster was just superb, there's nobody like him now.

There was plenty of cruelty in this movie. Not that much violence by today's standards.

Where is Robert Osborne? Who are these people they have on TCM now? Tiffany Vasquez? Ben Mankiewicz is really good, comes from a well-known film industry family. But the rest...
