Pinky's age

Excellant film though im confused, how old is Pinky supposed to be?

reply

In the book, I'm pretty sure he's 17.

'Yes sir; but it does say on the carton that we are an evil dairy.'

reply

The book says that he's seventeen but Richard Attenborough was twenty seven!

"Death is not the greatest of evils; it is worse to want to die and not be able to." Sophocles

reply

yeah im sure he says at one point that hes 17.

reply

he says he's 17, but he could be lying to Rose about his age...

reply

I think you'll find it stated in the text of the book that he's only seventeen. There is some legal technicality for Drewitt, his lawyer, to work around in order that Pinkie and Rose may be married. This is also explained in the book, which - if you haven't already read, you should. This movie is a pale reflection.

reply

In the film he asks Rose her age, and when she says she's 17 he says he is as well.

reply

That's right...and this is what sets up the whole business about the lawyer and the marriage license.

Attenborough has ALWAYS had boyish looks and a smooth complexion.

He was actually 23 when he played 17 year old Pinkie.

Even more incredible, only a year later he played (convincingly) a FOURTEEN year old school boy in "The Outsider(US)/"The Guinea Pig"(UK)
He continued to play well under his age for many years.

Come on lads, bags of swank!
