Any time, Fox.

I gave up trying to get a DVD of this film. I finally got tired of hoping to see it on AMC or TCM or any legit DVD issue.

So I bought a bootleg DVD which was a transcription of an old AMC broadcast on TV I must have missed. But better that grainy film with imperfect soundtrack than nothing.

Still, you have to be a Raymond Chandler fan to appreciate this movie.

George Montgomery with a pencil moustache, looking like a junior grade Zach Scott, and speaking lines that belong to a much older wise guy/smart mouth who can no more confide in the police than in school principals, makes a poor image of the Chandler character. His eagerness to take up with the leading lady of this film makes you wonder about the "knight" that Chandler envisioned. Was Lancelot a Lothario?

Worthwhile to see since the film is so rare, so generally unavailable, but not for all tastes. Maybe just for Chandler fans who want to complete their collection.

According to a noted film noir authority, THE BRASHER DOUBLOON is being held up for legal reasons. Fox definitely has a mint print of it, but they can't release it anywhere. I'm only speculating here, but I wonder if this is some sort of "literary rights" case, in which the heirs to the Raymond Chandler estate must be paid off before the film is merchandised in any way?

The film was shown at least once on the old AMC, when they were showing classic films uninterrupted by commercials. I don't believe that it has been aired by either FMC or TCM, which harkens back to the rights issue.

I would love to purchase a mint quality DVD of it, myself. C'mon Fox, clear those rights!

Quality is poor, but,it's up on You Tube...

Since this is a Fox film, I wonder why they never show it on the Fox Movie Channel?

Let it be unsaid: insignificance is the locus of true increpation.

I, too, noticed the resemblance to Zachary Scott.
