Apparently Lawrence Tierney was not only as *beep* in this movie, but in real life as well. His IMDB bio says he was known for being difficult and intimidating to those he worked with. So he really wasn't acting in this role, he was just being himself. He looks like a total tool, all petulant and whiny when things didn't go his way. Shame someone didn't bitch slap him when he was alive.

I seriously doubt he was as bad in real life as he was in the movie. He was a complete idiot who killed a man because he was dating 'his' woman. He loved her so much or she mattered to him so much but then he kills her too. Next, he kills his own 'best' friend. What a catch.
In real life he may have been a hot head, loud mouth, jerk which is bad enough but I doubt he killed anyone; at least I hope he didn't. A quote on his bio page says he wasted a lot of years drinking. That might explain his difficult behavior. Most drunks are hard to deal with yet people still drink as a way to have fun.
