Joe Bonaparte - Golden Boy tribute?

Anybody see the boxing sign near the beginning of the film advertising a Joe Bonaparte fight? Joe Bonaparte was the part William Holden played in Golden Boy, another great boxing picture...anyone know if it was a tip of the cap?
