The movie is based on a novel -would love to find a copy...

No you wouldn't. It's actually a short story and except for the names it's that close to the movie.

My main library in Phoenix, AZ said they had it in its vaults then couldn't produce it. (We have a high degree of theft at our library.)

You might find it through Inter-Library Loan if you have a Library Card.

Your best bet would be on a used book site like Alibris. I'd highly recommend the book. It's different than the movie; it looks more closely at the feelings of the wife, and there's also an interesting focus on children.

Wow. It's listed on Amazon.com USED for $249.00. That must be one really good book ;)
