Judy had only one number surnive the cut from 3 hours

It seems a shame that all those wonderful numbers were cut from the original three hour preview showings. It seems a shame that Judy, the "heart and soul" of MGM only had the one number (wonderful as it was) when she could have had one or two or three more. Or what must have been a wonderful number with Lena Horne and Avon Long being dropped. And Gene Kelly having only one segment which he shared with Fred. Or not using Mickey Rooney (I hear that he had to go into the Army at the time of the filming, but I'm sure that they must have had something on "the cutting room floor"), geez.

All this they could have used and more, but dropped, in favor of such non-funny segments with Victor Moore and Keenan Wynn, (I know there are other posters who thought Keenan Wynn's bit was the highlight of the movie). The only comic highlight that I would pass is the Fanny Brice routine and maybe the "Baby Snooks" skit which was dropped,(funny, another poster could'nt stand Baby Snooks", I loved her).

It's kind of ironic that from the "Fanny Brice" routine, that the only actor remembered today by the general public is "old Fred Mertz". I agree with another poster, that they could have pumped up the ending of the movie, it was'nt the grabber that they probably thought it was or hoped it was. James Melton sang a version of that song "Beauty" which they could have incorperated with Kathryn Grayson, which might have helped some.

That "Lime House Blues" segment was first-rate and briliant in every aspect of it, as was Judy's number. I wonder what Greer Garson said after seeing Judy in the number (it was supposed to be Greer's number, she did'nt like it, so they gave it to Judy, heck, poor Greer did'nt even get into the movie).

I certainly don't agree that Keenan Wynn's forced and horrible "Number
Please" is funny. THIS should've been cut. But Edward Arnold's "Pay
the Two Dollars" is quite amusing and Victor Moore an hilarious victim.
