One of the best of the 1940s

Just rewatched this one again as it's on the Movies! channel. I thought it was so well done, poignant and realistic. They actually began filming in 1941, cancelled it and continued in 1945. I thought Jody having to kill the deer was such a heavy scene. Gregory Peck criticized the film saying Jody cried too much, but that's what it was all about; the he loved the deer.
Interesting bit of trivia: Jane Wyman's daughter refused to speak to her for two weeks after she saw the film. She was the "bad guy"; it's weird how people can't separate the actor from their roles. Like for instance after Eric Roberts did Star 80, he said women would run away when he came. And Andrew Robinson after Dirty Harry got death threats.
Interesting that Wyman was married to Reagan during this film....back when he was an FDR Democrat. It was Nancy who converted him to the Reptiles.
Anyway, how could anyone hunt deer after seeing this film?
