Universal actors in a Warner Brothers film

Morton Lowry, Holmes Herbert, Paul Cavanagh, Ian Wolfe, and Olaf Hytten all appeared in at least one of the Sherlock Holmes movies of the '40s, which were made by Universal. What were so many Universal actors doing in The Verdict, which was a Warner Brothers film?

Most likely, being contract players, they went where they were needed.
