What do people think about this film?

I caught this film on TV one day and I was surprised at how eerie it was (thanks to the sinister presence of Ian Keith as "Ormond Murks"). Not many people seem to know about this film. It's a shame! It was cheaply made at Republic Studios, but it does have some good atmosphere. (It's not as good as Lugosi's Monogram efforts, but it's still worthwhile.) What do you people who've seen this film think about it?

I liked it. Ian Keith was good as well as the leading lady (the nurse). I liked some of the sets which added some nice creepy atmosphere. Some horror elements and a detective story. Nice short watch.

Loved it! Exactly the kind of flick I would have loved watching as a kid on Creature Feature while tucked into a sleeping bag with a pan of jiffy pop between me and my best pal.
Wonder why I never saw it 'till now?
Good atmosphere, halfway decent acting, wonderful villain and great wise-cracks!

Is this an example of pre-Romero zombie movies ? I watched this and White Zombie recently, and it's totally different from the norm now of a mass of shambling zombies out to terrorize survivors . Murks even mentions voodoo in this movie, the traditional way by which zombies are reanimated .

it was ok, watched it for the Zombies but there were none. Was more like a Vampire than a Zombie the way he had to have blood to survive.

Nice to see that some actors from this movie are still alive Russ Clark (94) and Lorna Gray who will be 97 in 20 days time. :)

Ian Keith should have played more creepy characters in his films. His Ormand Murks rare portrayal is one all 1940s horror fans should know about. I know Keith mostly for his quirky character of Vitamin Flintheart in the Dick Tracy series. He is good to follow for those who enjoy stagey performances.
