Here I had planned to get outside early and do yard work. then i turned on the tv and BANG there it was, and i couldn't turn away until the sad but inevitable conclusion. the self-sacrifice and genuine love portrayed in this movie touch me each time as deeply as the first. what acting!

Absolutely one of the greatest "soap opera" movies ever made and far superior to those shrill melodramas of this type from the 1950's that film "auteur" audiences love. The acting is superb here, the emotions real and tender.
