disappointed with a bad print

My grandpa gave me a DVD from public domain distributor VINA, and the first half of "Till The Clouds Roll By" played fine but then during the "Leave It To Jane" number the sound cuts off and the audio is either way ahead or way behind the picture. I was enjoying it to this point and was disappointed to have to turn it off. I am going to have to find another copy of this, as I didn't even get to see Judy Garland's parts!

If you're still looking to buy another copy I know Warner Home Video has it. They own the MGM film library up till the 70s. I have a copy and it is beautiful, much better then what you can get from a public domain copy.

public domain distributor VINA

I have no idea what VINA is, but this film is certainly NOT in the public domain. You got a bootleg copy and got what you should expect from a bootleg copy.

Sorry but I think you will find that t is in the public domain (at least in the UK) it has been released in the UK at least five times on DVD (and I mean by that on sale in shops like HMV etc), and each release is on a different label.

I have just checked and a according to the trivia on this very site because of MGM neglecting to renew the film, it has in fact been public domain since 1973.

reply

It was not a bootleg copy. It was packaged with "Royal Wedding", which I have yet to watch.

reply

"Royal Wedding" went Public Domain at the same time as this.

right you are, my friend

Just watched a Westlake Entertainment DVD (2007) of this from Netflix. Yes, public domain. Color shifted throughout and was consistently terrible. Tony Martin singing something from Showboat had the facial color of The Tin Man from Oz.

The story was presented in a boring style, which was kind of unusual for an MGM product.

Netflix must have bought/rented this DVD on the cheap.
