Help with a line near the end....

When Holmes reveals who he thinks Colonel Sebastian Moran is, Watson says "He used to play.......for the Gentlemen....."

Or something like that. Anyone know what he said exactly? I played it over and over with my DVR and can't figure it out.

Of course! Cricket. Thanks so much.

That of course was back in the day when cricket was played by "gentlemen" (upper class types that had money) and "players" (professionals that got paid for their work and were looked down on as being "tradesmen")

Come on lads, bags of swank!

Thanks. I'm a bit clueless when it comes to those things.

I assumed this was a reference to the famous annual Gentlemen versus Players fixture at Lord's: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentlemen_v_PlayersA retired army officer would naturally be playing for the amateur side in this special match; in normal cricket matches both teams were mixed, status being indicated by assigning initials to the names of the 'gentlemen' on the scoreboard and citing the professionals by their surnames.~~Igenlode (who can't play cricket) Gather round, lads and lasses, gather round...
