One of the better 'black and white' movies out there. I love it!

I love the B&W photography of this movie. I can't help but feel that if the movie were made today, all in color, it would be reduced considerably in its effectiveness, no doubt to the point of it just being another TV "whodunnit of the week" or some such. But the Black and White photography gives it a keenly felt classyness, something that hasn't worn off even after all these years.

The way Helen (Dorothy McGuire) is filmed in a few of the shots where she is so distressed or terrified, it is just eye-popping. I love it! You simply couldn't capture her facial emotions the same way if you were using color film. Some of these old B&W films were truly art.
