Telephone number

Doesn't anybody else think it odd that Dr. Parry gave Helen a phone number where she could reach him in case of emergency? Since this was before dial phones, how did he expect her to call him? Or did he anticipate that a true emergency would restore her voice?

**Spoiler alert**

My impression was that he didn't necessarily suspect anybody in the house (if he did, he surely wouldn't have left her there), so he gave Helen his number so she could get somebody to call him in an emergency. From his perspective there were plenty of people in the house to protect her -- the two brothers, the nurse, Mrs. Oates, Blanche... I never assumed he expected her to call him herself.

I just played that scene again and he handed her the number and told her if she needed him, "have Mrs. Oates ring me."
