Blu-ray Nixed March 28, 2011

From Blu-ray,com
"During the latest annual meeting of Shareholders of The Walt Disney Company, a shareholder asked about a Blu-ray release of Song of the South for its 65th anniversary. Once again, the reply from Disney CEO Robert Iger was that, even though they do consider that movie from time to time, "it wouldn't be the right thing for the company to do" because there are elements in the movie that wouldn't "feel right to a number of people today."

This 1946 Disney movie has never been released on home video because the studio fears that its portrayal of racial stereotypes could be offensive to part of the public, even when considering the historical context the movie was made in."

Yeah, a movie about Sandra Bullock being there for a disenfranchised black kid is ok. A movie about a disenfranchised white kid making a black friend who gives him security is not going to let us "feel right",

Iger should be stripped of his mouse ears! There is nothing wrong with this movie and it was a huge success for Walt. There will always be people who whine! That's what they are, whinners!

Iger gonna retire soon

reply

I'm sorry but I watched a few clips of this movie on youtube a while back and I don't think I'd feel comfortable watching it again. All the different Brer characters are offensive.

reply

its great to have a choice, this is not China where we censor things we don't like

reply

They should just release it and let the people who want to watch it do so, and those who don't want to can do something else.

reply

Indeed.
