It lost $700,000 at Box Office

I wonder why it lost so much money at the box office. It was an inspiring biopic with good acting.

The same reason really good movies lose at the box office today--people don't want to see anything from which they might (perish the thought) learn something.

I saw this film on TV a few times almost 40 years ago. I was a kid but I remember being very moved by it. My guess is that it was an intense drama with no flash or romanticism, and the title may have confused people over what the film was about. Russell earned a deserved Oscar nod (and should have won) but this film was a doubtful prospect in terms of box office. Too bad, because it's a fine film.

I'm not all that surprised that it lost money really. I think that post war cinema goers wanted something more light-hearted or thrilling to watch. I have just watched it for the first time. Even though it's not my usual type of film, I thought it was done well. Rosalind Russell was very good as the determined Sister Kenny.

It's good to hear from you again my friend. I've already seen the two vintage films on BBC2 next Saturday a few times now. So I'm saving myself for Drama Channel 20 at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. I've heard that this is a good creepy murder movie. Details below. I hope that you catch this one and enjoy:-

'Midnight Lace' - Doris Day, Rex Harrison + a classy supporting cast.
