They have not been released to vhs, let alone dvd. lol
I got the whole series on dvd from movie channels over the years.
They used to run them, but of late, I don't see them anymore.
It is a shame, these great little mysteries are not given better treatment and released for all to enjoy.

These movies are great !!!!! There were a few of them on TCM this morning and Richard Dix makes these movies great. Sadly, I think this one was his last. He died in 1949 I believe. What a shame. There is one more coming up next and with another actor. There some gorgeous girl in this with him and great clothes. Must check this out.

I like this series too.I think after watching them this morning it's now my favorite.Way better than The Lone Wolf,Boston Blackie or that other series I forget the title but the crime solver is a psychoanalyst.

since you just posted, I'm hoping that you were just watching Secret of the Whistler on TMC. I was watching until the last few minutes when I got a phone call and muted the sound. I saw the husband strangle the wife, but by the time I had hung up a minute later, the movie was over. Did she died? Did the law arrive? How did it end?

reply

Yes, he strangled her and she died. Then the police came in and he made a run for it. They shot and wounded him. Ironically, the police found the diary page that would have cleared him for the first wife's death.

Thanks!I wasn't sure where this one was going. Nice little B series.

I watched it this morning too and kind of enjoyed it.
Did they make other "Whistler" movies?

reply

yes there are a whole string of them. dix was in all but the last. the whistler is the one who acts as the person who comments on the actions onscreen. i needed to let people know that if you like these if you will look up all of this series and vote for them to be put on dvd there is a good chance that they will be issued on warner archive as a set.go to tcm look up the movie and there is a place there to vote for it to be issued on dvd.
this is one way for your voice to be heard.
