What was the drug?

It seemed to be in liquid form in a very small dark-coloured bottle, and was used for the relief of dental pain, I'm guessing morphine, would I be correct?

I was wondering too. Morphine seems to be a good guess, but I don't read Italian.

I don't think Marina would have been trying to scrape the last bits out of the bottle and put it on her hand if it were a liquid (like medicinal morphine). A powder, like cocaine, seems more likely. Cocaine (powdered) seems more likely than heroin (powdered) from several clues offered in the film.

Cocaine has a traditional association with dentistry (hence Marina's lie to her lover about where she got the drug), is frequently sniffed off the user's own hand (as Marina is seen trying to deposit a portion of the drug onto her hand the first time we see the bottle), is often stored in small glass containers, and is exactly the kind of addictive substance a Nazi might use to "woo" an informant. Get someone high on cocaine and he's chatty to a fault. Get someone high on smack and he's throwing up and nodding off.

I must have had a good print because the label on the bottle was clearly seen. Even though it wasn't in English there was enough similarity in spelling to surmise it was cocaine.

reply

Could be amphetamine too.

I was wondering myself, in my ignorance of drugs I thought opium or morphine but I went back and freeze framed it as she held it in her hand it the bottle says 'cocain' at the top of the label

Mucinex.
