I liked the film but I'm sorry, I have to suspend my disbelief seeing a woman as beautiful as Lana Turner would marry someone like Cecil Kallaway if he wasn't filthy rich.

maybe looking for a father figure more than a husband my mother married someone twice her age.

Yeah it was hard to believe but maybe this was set during the Depression era and he was the most well off that she could manage.

She wanted to "be somebody", nick was just a stepping stone and he had the restaurant. If she was capable of murder to get what she wanted, she was capable of marrying an older "less attractive" man. Felt it made the character and story more interesting.
