Sour Critics

Just belatedly read the 2007 comments from writers reign. Very sour I say. You dislike two instances of the hero and heroine escaping (off screen) from tight corners. So what? Both escapes were possible. In the first they blow up the train in a tunnel, presumably injuring or killing most of their potential pursuers, and then shoot the guard at the tunnel exit. In the second case, the gestapo are chasing them in the middle of the night and in the middle of the countryside i.e. it was pitch black, and so escape was entirely posible. What does writers reign want? Every piece of action and every scene to follow on seamlessly from the previous one? Sounds like a prescription for a tedious 4 hour film to me.

You will have to excuse writer reign. He is from England and no one from England is ever going to write anything positive about an American endeavour.

r2626,
Many thanks for the supporting comment, but I should say that as I am also from England, I don't necessarily agree the reasoning.
As someone who has posted negative comment on a couple of Hollywood blockbusters, I would suggest that the problem stems from a general English dislike of exaggeration. Tongue in cheek super heroes are fine (eg Bond/Flint/Helm), but deadly serious super heroes who single-handedly defeat hordes of baddies are a little OTT for our tastes.

Wow, a civil Brit. I was beginning to think they were an endangered species. Of course my contacts with Brits are limited to the posts here on IMDB and a gorgeous brunette I met in Los Angeles in the sixties. Who I must say was quite civil.

It has been a pleasure communicating with you. I might add that I am not a fan of super heroes myself.

Have a nice day, or night whichever it is in the U.K. right now.
