Abner! Abner! yup, that's George Tobias as "Al", 20 years before playing Abner Kravitz on Bewitched. What a great collection of stars and character actors -- beside John Garfield in the lead, you have Walter Brennan, Mr. Wisecracker from all those westerns, and Grady Sutton, (the chef in the diner) who starred with W.C. Fields, always playing the meek, down-trodden guy. Pity they don't list all the filming locations. Similar to the "Big Sleep", which had just been released 2 months before this... hmmmm... Story by the prolific William Burnett.
