Plot Error: What Happened to the Money Chico and Harpo Collected?

Is there a plot error in the film? I thought that Chico and Harpo were collecting the money (by selling table space in the restaurant/dance hall) to give to Pierre, so he could pay the informant (the "spy" in the IMDb listing, played by David Hoffman) and find out who wore the toupee -- which would identify the Nazi spy ring and save the day. And I thought that Chico and Harpo collected a bundle, and Chico sent Harpo off with the money. I didn't notice any event that stopped Harpo from getting the money to Pierre, so the spy ring should have been blown open and the movie should have ended early!

But of course, it wouldn't have been long enough for a feature film in that case!

Was there a flaw in the script here?

I wondered the same. We last see Harpo and Chico leave with the bundle of money, then Chico spots the piano, so he stops for his musical number and gives the money to Harpo, and after that, no more money! It's like there's a scene missing where Harpo loses everything. Although you could argue that entrusting money to Harpo is pretty much like throwing it away.
