I didn't think it really sounded like him.

I do believe it was indeed him. Errol was a capable singer and dancer.

You should check out his song and dance number in Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943)

Errol, sporting an enormous handle bar mustache, sings That's What You Jolly Well Get in a cockney accent, and dances through a pub as the locals try to kick him out.
