Yet another movie board that is pretty bare. I liked this movie. Barbara is such a great actress and I think that this film encompassed every mood. My boyfriend stopped to and asked what I was watching, this was about the point where she met Frank skiing. He thought Frank was creepy and asked if it was an old scary movie. I said no, he is suppose to be dreamy but I could see his point.

Some of the camera shots that jumped out at me were when he said goodbye to her at the cabin, his shadow looming over her against the fireplace. Also when she talks to her boys and they are on either side of her as she herself is shadowed out. When I remember this movie, these are the images that come to mind.

Worth a watch, not the best movie out there, but it is a good one.

ophelia137; Since there are two (2) pages of reviews, that is where the opinions are, so the dearth on this board. Though agree, think that more attention should have been garnered for this fine Barbara Stanwyck effort. A film we rate IMDB********Eight (8).

Sounds like your Boy-Friend (S.O.) is not a devotee of the 'Golden Age' of Hollywood. George Brent may be a little wooden sometimes, but "scary", no way. Unfortunately the film was released in 1946, though completed in 1944 where its context would have made more sense. Post-War, being sent to Europe as part of the occupation forces is just not as threatening as having to face up to the Wehrmacht.

I think We may be a little older then the both of you. Which may explain our and particularly my appreciation of the film. My S.O. thouroughly enjoyed the film and She could have done any of the Costumes Ms. Stanwyck did full justice.
