Good movie but Victor Mature does not make a good Doc Holliday

He seems to big and healthy. Kirk Douglas, Val Kilmer and Dennis Quaid were all more convincing. Victor Mature is terrific in other movies though.

He certainly wasn't an ACCURATE Doc, then again nigh-on nothing in MDC is rooted in reality. Being "big" certainly didn't stop Vic from convincing me he was ill and tormented. He's also pretty scary looking (being physically imposing comparative to Fonda contributed to that) which is beneficial as Doc is rather antagonistic for the bulk of this film: a viewer with no prior knowledge of the actual people and events would have no expectations of how the Earp/Holliday dynamic will pan out in the end.

I don't think there was much intention to recreate THE Holliday in MDC. Fonda's laidback Earp is also a bit of an oddball amidst the other interpretations but he's my fave by a long shot.
