Michael Eisner, the worst editor ever!

He took out one whole scene. The very first one,The Martins and the Coys.I could tell something was fishy when there were two groups who weren't in a single segment. He could at least edit out them from the credits so no one will be suspicous. The Pied Pipers sang on that segment.Duuno about The King's Men though.Maybe they were also on that segment.Michael definitely is a bad editor for deleting that scene but keeping their names in the credits.I'm very mad at him for doing both.

"The Martins and the Coys" is probably the second-best segment in the film, behind Walt's personal favorite "Peter and the Wolf."

reply

I wonder if that is what happened to a segment on Walt Disney Treasures - Silly Symphonies where the papers that came with my copy says Farmyard Symphony is one of the Silly Symphonies in it and Leonard Maltin even mentions it in an interview in the copy but that piece is missing.

reply

I don't recall whether Farmyard Symphony was one of them, but I can tell you that the Silly Symphonies set was the only one that HID shorts on the disc as easter eggs. there are at least four that aren't in the official menu, you have to hunt for them. So that may be it.

They are trying to be politically correct. Disney is notorious for this. That's why they suppressed "Song of the South". They figure that a cartoon like that first one in "Make Mine Music" makes violence comic.

When "Make Mine Music" was first shown on the Disney Channel, back in the early 1990's, it was shown complete. They have cut it since then.

reply

We should be able to decide for ourselves if the film is bad. I sure dont like being told what I can and cant watch in the interest of PC. What makes 1946 audiences different from us? I'd not rented it if I had known it was cut.

reply

It's this policy of revisionist/PC editing why the Japanese Laserdiscs of Make Mine Music and Song of the South are so sought after since they are pretty much the only uncut, semi-permanent home video versions of these films.

I've been trying to get an LD of MMM for years now. Cheapest I've ever seen for it was $250

Well if Eisner was the one behind this, then I'm damn glad he's gone.

I came so close to buying Make Mine Music on DVD, but once I found out they *beep* cut out one of the segments, I was pissed.

Great way to lose a customer!! I couldn't be more dissapointed in them for caving into the pleas of a tiny minority that cries and whines everytime a *beep* drop of blood or gunfire is shown.

FOR SHAME DISNEY, FOR SHAME!!! PC will be the downfall of this nation!!!!

reply

They won't release this or Song of the South. I'm more insulted that they believe intelligent adults can't handle the content. When they released the Complete Goofy set a few years ago they included cartoons people could call "racist" (I'm thinking of "Californy Er Bust!") but they were preceded with a little quick intro by Leonard Maltin basically telling the viewers "don't get worked up!"

Why not the same with the above mentioned titles? It really makes me angry...

reply

The "PC" to which you refer was/is that of a CONSERVATIVE corporation. CONSERVATIVE corporations are all about the money, the money, and the money.

Thus about not offending its [perceived] largest customer-base: CONSERVATIVE "family values" types who wouldn't know actual offensive from trumped up offensive.

reply

I never thought I'd say this - but the "Family" values they have been curbing these releases for are mainly Liberal. Violence in family entertainment is a Liberal Don't, not a Conservative. I'd have to say the same thing with the cartoon Smoking edited out of the Melody Time and Saludos Amigos DVDs and VHSs. More of a Liberal Don't than a Conservative Don't. And of course - fear of racist comments - also more Liberal than Conservative.

I just call 'em like I see 'em.

It doesn't matter whether Disney is "liberal" or "conservative." Such behavior has little to do with politics and everything to do with money.

reply

There are LIBERAL organizations that are all about Political Correctness as well. This isn't a RED or BLUE state issue.

Just look at Ted Turner. Liberal as you can get, but he still censors all the Waner Bros and MGM cartoons that he has sole ownership of a good chunk of the violence and "racial content." 'Swhy we'll never see the VERY offensive, but still considered a classic, Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarves short.

And, ummmm . . . yeah, pretty much all companies are about making money. That's what for-profit organizations are all about--profit.

You know I would love to see this movie as a whole. But only if the Martins and the Coys is edited back in. Since John Lasseter's now in charge of Disney animation, he can fix that.

And why should it be any different from the violence in Atlantis? Martins and the Coys violence is more like a Looney Tune compared to the violence in that one!
