Laraine Day is Gorgeous

Laraine Day was never more beautiful than she is in this film. And her hair in its various styles is perfect. And this is also probably her best performance. A very under-rated actress.

I thought of every point you made while watching it myself. This is the only movie I've ever seen of hers where I thought she looked absolutely movie-star glamorous.

I think she is beautiful in "Mr. Lucky" and "The Story of Dr. Wassail", but not just drop-dead gorgeous in every scene as in this movie. She always has those big expressive eyes, but I really think it is the hairstyles in this film that put her over the top for me. They seem full of body, but not full of hairspray - not overly coiffed.

One of my very favorite actresses. Absolutely lovely.

My favorite is Foreign Correspondent.

I hear some big name actresses wanted the role and were being considered for it. Laraine Day only got it because of her friendship with one of the filmmakers. What a lucky break for her and everyone who enjoyed this movie.

I can't imagine anyone doing nearly as good a job in the role. It's too bad this role didn't get her even more starring roles. She deserved it.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Lots of quality competition in those days for beautiful, sophisticated brunettes. But Day is perfect here as she was in FC and The Locket. Cudos to the casting dept.

If you watch a lot of old movies I am surprised that this is your first exposure to Laraine Day. Several contributors to this thread have mentioned some great, classic films in which she appears. I recommend that you check them out - especially Foreign Correspondent. It is a great story starring Joel McRea, one of my all-time favorite actors along with Laraine Day and George Sanders in one of his extremely rare good-guy roles.
