Bowery Boys

Is this the first of the Bowery Boys movies?

reply

yes, I think that Slip ans Sach are funnier than their contemporaries like Abbott and Costello or Lewis and Martin. I recently purchased all 48 titles on Dvd

reply

If you " recently purchased all 48 titles on Dvd", then you purchased 48 pirated titles, as these films have NEVER been issued on DVD.

Where did you purchase them from??

reply

michaeljcarey; They are rerunning them this Month on TCM. The real question after watching the first three (3) is why would you want them all! The best only rate IMDB******Six, the worse in the 50s' IMDB**Two. Just like the Abbott & Costello's this type of 'low-brow' humor runs really thin if you watch more then three (3) in a row. It is designed to appeal to those with a limited appreciation of comedy cinema or are in perpetual adolescent development.

xerses13, I gotta mostly agree with your assessment, but today I saw the TCM airing of "Lucky Losers" (and had viewed another episode last week) and I'd say it's probably one of the better entries in the Bowery Boys flicks.

They used to re-run the BB's pictures all the time on the pre-cable, UHF local channels, when I was a youngster-to-teen in the 1970's, and I really enjoyed the antics of "Slip," "Sach" and "Whitey" & the rest of the gang. But that was THEN. Too much "Bowery Boys" soon wears pretty thin for me, nowadays! Especially Sach and his mugging and the way he fawns over Slip--which, in THIS day and age, ISN'T interpreted as "innocent hero-worship" anymore but, rather, as "Brokeback Mountain-ish!"

vinidici; Thank you for your comment, hope you voted. You are right a over-exposure of the BOWERY BOYS can be DEADLY! We saw them first in the 1960s', they were on every Saturday morning.

Right about SACH, but also by the 1950s' and the last 36, 'BOYS was the last description you can use.

Ya know, for the 5-or-so years as an IMDb user I've been chiming in a few respectably-OK comments HERE, and puttin' in my *MINUS two cents* THERE, but I've never ventured into the "IMDb Pro" stuff or voted :(

I'm one of these "older guys" who learns how to do stuff very, very slowly!

Any advice on how to get started as a voter, making film commentaries, etc?

As for age I am '59' and SHE/S.O. is '57'. Tap into xerses13 and review all our choices. They are varied, just give a valued opinion.

That is only your opinon. What do you consider the best type of 'comedy cinema'?

reply

Their films always seemed to be second billed on Saturdays. Always considered them second rate back then but enjoyable light fare. Will be watching live wires in a few minutes so will see if my memory hold up.
