I wasn't aware of this, but Mason General was part of Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in Brentwood, NY. Part of Mason still exists in buildings 81-83. I visited #82 for an employment interview and I was struck at the enormity of the buildings. I never had reason to visit Pilgrim before (haha) but living on Long Island, one never mistakes those tall brick buildings with the green rooftops. I had no idea the center was so enormous. It is an amazing place.

The ones they took down in the late 80's were very evil looking structures called Edgewood Hospital http://www.edgewoodhospital.com/ I remember them as a kid looming over the horizon no matter where you were on Long island, you could see them. The creepiness was compounded becuase there were no trees anywhere, just enormously out of place buildings.
