George Bailey is a bit of a stubborn jerk with one deaf ear

Not only was he a bit rude to Mary when they were kids but George was pretty stubborn by being tough against Potter.

That and George kept holding himself back every time by letting Harry get all the fortune and glory and that one friend getting rich off of plastics etc.

And people think George is supposed to be the "hero" of the movie?

reply

George was selfless, that's the point. He constantly gave up his dreams and ambitions to help others, and was rewarded for it, ultimately.

I'd have taken Potter's job offer.

Most people would have taken Potter's offer, but that's what made George different. If he had accepted Potter's offer, George would have prospered but a lot of people in Bedford Falls would have suffered.

A powerful & positive role model for many in real life! If only more followed it.
