The early pharmacy scene....

Just watched this last night.....the early pharmacy scene where young George's ear is slapped is so hard to watch because of George's pure forgiveness.....

reply

Yes, but George understands why Gower did that, having seen the telegram he received about his son dying of 'flu and taking his grief and anger out on George before he realises that George spotted the mistake he made during his grieving, which would've ended up poisoning a child. It is hard to watch, as it looks like the ear bled as well, and the reaction of the girl nearby. Powerful acting by all three.

reply

Meh. It was just his bad ear anyway.

reply

It wasn't just that the ear was bad. The actor playing Gower the pharmacist got drunk during the course of the afternoon and was still soused when the director filmed the scenes, and he really did hit the George actor hard around the ears, causing the bleed. Getting him drunk was apparently intentional, and I only found all this out since my previous post on this thread.

reply

That is crazy. I never knew that either.

reply

Sure.

reply

If some drunk old fuck that I had been kind to hit me like that I would never speak to him again. I'd probably key the hell out of his car and slit all four tires. I'm not as forgiving as George.
