I find Joan Crawford beautiful and sexy in this movie, but her hairstyle is just ridiculous. I can't get past it every time I look at her. It's plastered down on top and fluffed out on the sides like Bozo the Clown. So distracting.
Funny, but I always thought Joan's hairstyle in this movie was one of her best. Long, flowing and free and framing her face beautifully. Much better than the severe close cropped look she often preferred in the 50s. In Humoresque I find the hair style adds immeasurably to making he look her most beautiful.
Of course, the only hairstyle that's looks good to today's audiences is long straight hair like the late 1960 s which has been the ideal since that time.
Frankly, I think her hair style is pretty and sets off her gorgeous face (those features!!!! BEAUTIFUL!) perfectly. With her face, who the hell is looking at her hair anyway?
Life can be arbitrary and comes without a warranty.
Everyone misses the point. That was the style in the 40's and '50's. Waved on the sides and slicked down in the center. Variations of this were the norm for many yrs. All women had this style. Joan's was rather poufy. I believe it was achieved with those perm rods. She had her hair like this 10 yrs later. though less poufy. I guess you don't pay attention because this look was very popular for many yrs. Just watch late 40's movies all the stars wore their hair that way.
Also didn't that 'slicked down' crown & maybe a bit of front allows a spot for hats to sit.Though at this point in the film I've not seen Joan wear a hat. I've noticed this in many films of this peroid. You remove hat smooth with hand, your hairstyle still intact. Bonus no hat hair. Still I have to say in some scenes it does look like Bozo's hair.
Hated her hair as well. I've seen the same type of style realized better on other women. I could only conclude WB did it to make her look more villainous.
