Victor Wright . . . what's his game?

I believe that all should re-examine the character of Victor Wright (played by Paul Cavanagh) . . . he seems to play a critical role in this story . . . I advise everyone to go over what he's doing in the film . . . He allows Paul Boray into the den of inequity . . . he introduced himself to Paul as a very weak man (after inspecting him, or giving Paul his approval, it seems he's preparing to give his wife Helen a new boy toy) . . . . the downward spiral for both Helen and Paul occurs after Victor tells Helen she can have a divorce . . he seems to be some sort of puppet master controlling things behind the scenes . . . he governs a great deal of the forward movement of the story . . . This film is most intriguing . . . it is Miss Crawford's best role and the same for John Garfield . . .
