Will be on Svengoolie on 4/2/2016

House of Horrors (1946) will be shown on Svengoolie on MeTV on Saturday, 2 April 2016, at 9PM Central time. 

It's been a little over a year since Sven showed this classic Universal horror movie. 

This is really a great movie, and we can all root for The Creeper, played by Rondo Hatton.

It's worth watching just to see all the wild hats worn by Virginia Grey.    

Wasn't there a series of movies with Rondo Hatten playing the Creeper?

I believe that Rondo Hatton played "The Creeper" three times. The first was in 1946 in the Sherlock Holmes movie, Pearl of Death. Then there was House of Horrors and the third was The Brute Man, which I think was his last screen credit.

Thanks for the info James. Betting Sven will give all the details during the movie.

It looks like we all enjoyed this movie six months ago. I'm glad I'm going to get to see this for a second time.

I think I read that the British neighbor on "The Jeffersons" had the same disease. I think it's called acromegalia. It was more treatable by the time the Jefferson's neighbor got it.

Rondo awards have something to do with the horror genre.

I just read the post from the last time it was on Sven. I don't remember seeing it. This must have been the weekend, that I got engrossed in another show and forgot, only to realize that the movie was listed as the title and not Svengoolie, so the DVR never recorded it.

I will be watching tonight for sure.

@Gema6: I recall Svengoolie addressing this at some point and saying that because the movie makes up the majority of the show, that the movie title is listed and not "Svengoolie" on the channel guide. That means manually setting your DVR for the movie every week... I've missed a few episodes myself for that very reason.

Be sure to watch for all the different hats worn by Virginia Grey. 

Wow. I see what you mean about the hats. They are pretty funky.

reply

I sure saw some doozies!  I'm not really a hat person, but I know they were the rage in that time period. 👒

I caught most of the Sven House Of Horrors and found it highly entertaining; well made for such a modestly budgeted film, featuring some good to excellent performances (Martin Kosleck rules in this one) and some very sexy 40s babes, sexy even by today's standards. I'd rate it higher but for the exploitation of the acromegaly afflicted Rondo Hatton, which left a bad taste, and which was bad taste. On the other hand, it's not like some studio chief injected him with venom that made him that way. I'm guessing that he earned a better living in Hollywood than he would have otherwise once the acromegaly kicked in. It's a terrible disease, has always been rare, and far less common today than a hundred years. Modern medicine was still in its infancy, and our morals weren't much more mature, thus people with deformities, often called freaks, were used in side shows and theaters, sometimes in the movies. It was a different time.
