ANGELA LANSBURY'S VOICE

Is it just me or does anyone else think that Angela Lansbury's singing was dubbed by someone else?

I've heard her sing before in several other pictures, but in this one the singing voice sounds nothing like her at all.

Can anyone offer an explanation?

ASTOUNDING!

It would be interesting to know the whys and wherefores -as well as to hear the original audio tracks of how Lansbury sang them.

Angela said she was suprano at that time and they needed her to have a deeper bar-girl-like singing voice. So therefore she was dubbed -- badly I might add. :D

Cyd Charisse is always dubbed, in all of her movies.

Jealousy is all the fun you *think* they're having.

I thought it was odd too. Good to know.

You can hear/see her sing in Till the Clouds Roll By, among other things.

He said it's all in your head, and I said, so's everything--
But he didnt get it.

In Picture of Dorian Gray she sings "Yellow Bird".

According to IMDB, she was dubbed by Virginia Rees (8 redits, no bio.).

The studio thought her voice was too dainty for a saloon girl. They felt it needed to be a bit heftier. This was only her fourth film, and she was still very young. And we all know MGM was a big evil movie empire, especially after finding out that they inadvertently caused Judy Garland to commit suicide... But I digress. She mouths the words perfectly and really hills her own against an all-star cast, including America's Sweetheart herself. I think they did an excellent job dubbing her voice. Her performance was top-notch, even as a newbie! :D
