Elisha Cook Jr

What a great use of this wonderful character actor's talents. The whole film is rather run-of-the-mill, quite conventional, but those creepy scenes with ECJr really stand out. The director knew to focus on his boyish face transfixed by distress, terror and disappointment (with a tiny bit of insanity). Of course, many of the directors ECJr worked with played on his unusual looks, but it's particularly striking here as the film itself is not particularly focused on style.

And he bites the dust again. Did he ever get through a movie alive?

As the OP say Elisha Cook Jr's boyish looks is really accentuated in this movie. When he's after the girls he looks like a schoolboy not ready to date. The same with Mickey Rooney in some of his movies at this time. It looks a bit strange when he gets romantic too.
