Before Scott Chavez (Herbert Marshall) is taken to the gallows, he quotes the Rubayait:
"...one thing is certain, that Life flies;
One thing is certain, and the Rest is Lies;
The Flower that once has blown for ever dies."
Yes, I thought that was a nice touch too. It made the death of Chavez (a character we don't see much of) a little more poignant.
Here's the whole quote from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam used in the movie: "Oh, threats of Hell and Hopes of Paradise! One thing at least is certain: This Life flies; One thing is certain and the rest is Lies; The Flower that once is blown for ever dies." (1889 edition, LXIII)
