speaking of faces, Pearl's face looks like crap - literally!!! her face looks like they used crap for make-up. she shouldn't have shot Lewt; she shoulda shot the make-up person who did her face!!!

I watched this movie a few hours ago for about the 10th time, and I always feel her face needs washing everytime I see it. I guess with the make-up they were using, they were trying to make her look like a half-breed.

I think Ms. Jones' make-up job is problematic as well and am guessing that it was the state of the art for color photography during that era. I'm sure this was a tough location shoot (Arizona?) Her lipstick is a real problem; the make-up artist (or Ms. Jones herself) outlined her lips beyond her natural lip line and in (very) close-up it doesn't look good. A lot of effort and money was expended on "Duel in the Sun" but these points were neglected.

I can only imagine how hot it must've been in Arizona, especially if it was shot during the summertime!

As for her lip line.....it was a fashion custom for women who had thin lips to outline past the natural lip line to make the lips look fuller. I'm old enough to remember when this was a common cosmetic practice, and when some of the ladies who used this trick....were without lipstick, you could still see a permanent, visible stain on the skin above and below their lips. Lipstick at that time was not the lipstick it is today! You can wash out or remove stains from the lipstick we use now; but lipstick of 'yesteryear' had a different viscosity and would become an indelible stain...just ask any man from that time who got caught with lipstick on his collar...LOL!

You probably won't enjoy "West Side Story".

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.
