Look for the book "Memo From Selznick," much of which deals with the making of this film. He was obsessed with "outdoing" GONE WITH THE WIND. Therefore, the script was rewritten countless times and Selznick tried to tell directors how to direct. Is it any wonder DUEL ended up such a hodge-podge?
