So how does the poison gas work?

If the poison gas cannister used to dispatch Holmes is somehow activated by the car engine, why do the bad guys then proceed to leave in the car? Colonel Cavanaugh is even concerned that there is sufficient petrol in the tank.

reply

I think they left in another car.

Poorly as it turned out.... I must admit the all the 'choreography' surrounding the gas canister was a little confusing, I wasn't able to follow it right.

I agree. That whole scene was crude. They could've just left the car running.
The carbon monoxide would've been enough to kill Holmes.

Never!!!! Not the great Sherlock Holmes. I'm sure he would have thought of something....just like in this case

The gas evidently doesn't work very well. I wondered why the bad guys were standing around as the gas was released. There was a lot surrounding Holmes. How much does it take to kill a man?

reply

It probably needed to build up to a certain concentration.
