A touch of humour.

Near the start of the film, when the gentleman asked who had bought the three boxes, he was also informed that one had been bought for two pounds, another for one pound, and the third, to a mr Brown, for ten shillings. Referring to the latter purchase, he mused "a big drop from two pounds" The auctioneer promptly replied "mr Brown is a Scotchman" This "explanation" was readily accepted, though it didn,t even make sense. Good old Hollywood.

back when use of stereotypes and generalizations was accepted and encouraged, the Scottish were rumored to be thrifty and good at bargaining. this was such a well-used phrase that the writers assumed it would not need explanation....

while the picture quality is quite good, the sound track didn't stand up very well; the background music sounds just awful. (wonder if it sounds better on a faster cable connection...i have broadband cable modem)

just my 1.7 cents.. (inflation) / ksf-2

I "learned" from the Donald Duck magazine in 70's that Scottish are "cheap".

Try the excellent DVD remastered by UCLA -The sound and picture are wonderful. They did amazing work given the low quality of the prints they had to use.

That was hilarious. At least he didn't say he was a Jew!

Shouldn't it have been "Scotsman"?
