Birmingham Brown sucks!

I am shocked when I see people consistently talk about how much they like Bumbleham Brown in their reviews. He's awful! To make it worse, he's always teamed up with a Chan offspring that's usually more lame than he is.
Dark Alibi was excruciating watching the dumbnamic duo performing their antics. It makes no sense...why are they there? The first five minutes of the movie is very dark and moody. Later, at the hotel, there is an attempt to make it a sinister place where nefarious people live. The comic relief totally obliterates all of these efforts. How about more character development, especially between the framed man's daughter and her prison guard boyfriend. He just pops out of nowhere and we never learn anything about him or the history of the relationship.
Could you imagine Citizen Kane with this kind comic relief. How about Cape Fear? When Max Cady is trying to kill and/or rape the counselor's family, we could cut to a 15 minute segment of a "negro" fumbling around with a fishing line, trying to catch a fish, and then falling into the water.
Death to comic relief, death to Birmingham Brown!

I agree that the so-called comic relief was completely unnecessary and even distracting. That's on the writers; however...The actor, Moreland, was an excellent comedic actor.

It was 1946 afterall. His back and forth with Carter was quite good.

You are the king of criticism, Anthony Oscar-35 Genovese. If it ain't you, it ain't good. 'Course we can't see how really outstanding you are because YOU won't release your filmette series of one. Can you see how the words "be less ignorant" can come across as just a bit pompous, egotistic, critical, mean? Seriously? Can you SEE that?

It's the first time I've seen the Birmingham Brown team up with a brother called Benjamin. Their 'know what each other's going to say' patter was a bit too much.
