Saw it this morning

I usually have the news on while I'm getting ready for work, but I had watched something last night on this channel and this film was on the TV when I turned it on, this morning. I laughed so hard my wife came running to saw what was wrong with me. She sat down and watched it, too.

Neither one of us have never seen or heard of this movie before. As I was getting ready I could hear my wife laughing. She said "This is a spoof of the Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton movie, right?" I told her, "It sure does sound like it. Leigh is defiantly mocking Elizabeth Taylor."

I went on IMDB to check this film out, and I was very surprised to see it was made in 1945!

I'm glad to hear this is SUPPOSED to be comical - I thought it would be basically serious like all other Cleo movies I've seen.
The acting & story seem like a SNL skit and the movie like Mystery Science Theater fodder (I've only waded through the first half hour; maybe it gets better).
I can't believe the real Cleo (when she meets Caesar at the "Sphinx" for the first time) would be so ignorant as to not be aware of how Romans dressed, for goodness sake! Obviously he's not Egyptian. Did it not occur to her to ask what country he was from??
It seems such a shame, because the costumes, sets and cinematography are some of the most astonishingly beautiful I've ever seen on film - and unworthy of such ridiculous dialogue. Sorry, GBS fans!!

I just watched it. Incredibly tedious IMO. It looks lovely and you can't fault the acting. But it's too dialogue-focused... it was hard to keep watching.

It's just not a good movie, plain and simple. Thats all that need be said.

Given the time period...just about EVERYTHING was dialogue focused. Plays were popular before the invent of movies, and stage plays HAVE to be dialogue focused. Movies were made for such a short time prior to this so they didn't have a lot of special effect, or cinematography gimmicks to fall back on.

That logic and saying its unwatchable for being "dialogue-focused" is like damning an 80's movie for not having CGI.
