I have always wanted to see this movie and finally did on TCM. I was sorely disappointed, mainly because of the lackluster performance of Veronica Lake. In fact, every time she and Alan Ladd were in a scene by themselves the energy level went down and the movie dragged. Howard da Silva and William Bendix gave the best performances along with the lady that played Ladd's wife.

She's livelier in "Sullivan's Travels."
