Constance Dowling!!! Yum Yum!!!
Wow, I read through most of the comments for this film, and also took a peak at CD's board, and no-one has commented upon how smouldering hot this woman was!
It's a shame she had such a spotty career and never got the break she needed to go further (I suppose fooling around with that fink Elia Kazan didn't do her any favors, and bailing out on Hollywood for Italy probably didn't help her any either).
But after her character is killed early on in this noir, and the good girl June Vincent comes into the story, all I could keep thinking of was Constance and it made absolute perfect sense why someone might just have to kill her if she had loved them and then spurned them.
Took me a long time to finally see this film--better than average film noir.
