Lady Loves Cool Phillip

Women throwed themselves at him. I bet that screenplay was written with Eroll Flynn in mind 

Was the book like that? I read it months ago and don't recall it being so over the top. Almost every woman in the movie literally falls in his arms or throws herself at him, except Agnes and the librarian maybe. That stuff makes the movie seem the most dated and silly, but the ending is pretty hokey too. He breaks and enters Eddie Mars' house with a revolver to face thugs with machine guns? And weren't the two thugs who beat Marlowe up in the alley working for Eddie? I don't see any other gangsters in the movie.

In the book Marlowe sleeps with no one. The sisters come on to him--but they seem to have ulterior motives that have nothing to do with burning lust for him. The movie seems cartoonish by comparison due to this difference.
