Nobody can ever replace Bogart. They just don't make em like that anymore. And I'm under 30, so I'm not being nostalgic or wearing rose coloured glasses!

That said, I like the idea of Downey Jr as Phillip Marlowe!

reply

clive owen.

Life's like a Cabo Carne Asada: never know how spicy it's gunna get.

Clooney was my first thought.

reply

Not Clooney again!!

Robert Downey jr

Cast an unknown it would a great break for their career!

Josh Brolin might be good. He looks intelligent (and is!), and he's got a sort of 40s face.

Jon Hamm might be ok too.

George Clooney, Russell Crowe, Brad Pitt, and Kevin Spacey.

reply

Anyone of those mugs you mention could play Marlowe....but they'd all stink at it, compared to Bogart.

reply

Because you need a 47 year old actor playing a 38 year old character who looks 57 from smoking.

reply

I take that back, Downey Jr. had beat hisself up plenty, he might just be the guy

reply

I sure would like to see Jon Hamm try.

reply

Jim Caviezel?
Jon Hamm?

reply

No, just NO. In fact, HELL NO!

reply

Ellen Page

As "Marlowe Phillips".

reply

The only name I can think of is Kevin Spacey. Think of the debonair world weariness he presented in another (neo) Noir classic - LA Confidential.

Maybe Fassbinder.

reply

Or another guy from LAC, Russell

Mark Ruffalo. Check him out as the detective in Zodiac. Not very glamorous, a bit cynical, and pragmatic.
