This movie creeped me out, and doesn't hold up well

I remembered that it creeped me out in high school, but I couldn't remember why. I just saw it again. The arms holding the candlesticks - eww. The faces looking out from the statues - more eww. It was a good concept, but what was that about floating up to the sky at the end? I just didn't think it was a **** film, especially for 1946.

I just saw it and had a totally different reaction. I think this amazing film transcends time and will never be dated. It is a piece of art that kept me mesmerized from beginning to end.

Some people would prefer the Disney cartoon version--nice songs, pretty colors.

The movie had a haunting atmosphere in the Beast's castle, which makes absolute sense.

Can't stop the signal.

Those elements are very eerie, and they creep me out, too. I believe they're supposed to!

I'm more creeped out by the fact that the Beast was ok with keeping a random woman locked up in his castle against her will while her father was dying, and to ask her each day when she was going to marry him. Somehow he was ok with that whole kidnapping thing, but he also cared enough about her to make sure she was ok with marrying him?

Well realistically, how else was he going to break the curse? A woman was not going to voluntarily fall for him in his beastly state.

To me this comment is madness. I can't think of any fantasy film as old as this that does hold up as well. It's dark, moody, weird and extremely creative with what it puts up on screen.

I can't really think of a film I've seen like it. It was hypnotic, really.

For me, one of the most eerily beautiful, dreamlike films ever made.
